Low-Code No-Code before it was cool

Desktop Services was coined in the mid-1990s as a name for a - at the time - new service. At that time, employees had access to applications in which they could make their own rules and automations. This created the possibility of providing services for them. The three most important needs turned out to be:
  1. Advice and support in working out solutions themselves.
  2. Outsourcing the development and expanding and adapting the results themselves.
  3. Transferring applications developed in-house, so that continuity can be guaranteed when the knowledge is no longer available.

In 2000, this was translated into the following mission statement:

Desktop Services focuses on the functional design of the so-called DESKTOP environment and has intensive contact with the organisation about this.
She advises and supports the organisation in the effective use of the available applications and tools, and creates and manages, by direct order of the organisation, person-oriented and group-oriented applications.

Twenty years later, the needs have not changed and the limitations from that time no longer apply. The same capabilities can now be purchased as services at any scale. Setting up different rights can now be managed and controlled. And finally, rolling out and rolling back versions is no longer difficult or impossible.

This site defines which options can be used and which techniques can be applied to the Microsoft 365 platform in order to continue to offer solutions.
